Information About MLS Laser Therapy
MLS laser therapy can be beneficial for several conditions, whether it's chronic pain in your feet or ankle, a recent injury from running or other sports, or assisting with recovery from a surgical procedure! But, what is laser therapy?
Multiwave locked system (MLS) laser therapy is the most advanced system available, offering an alternative to invasive treatments such as injections. Laser therapy is an FDA-cleared solution for relieving pain and inflammation, and treatments exploit dual wavelengths of infrared light to infiltrate deep below the surface of your skin into underlying bones and tissues.
This laser energy stimulates cell regeneration, which ultimately encourages new tissue development. Furthermore, MLS laser therapy has also been known to improve healing and pain reduction.
What to expect at your appointment
The good thing about MLS laser therapy is that it is entirely painless, and each session takes no longer than ten to twelve minutes from start to finish. Once you have made yourself comfortable, your laser technician will position the robotic head of the laser over the treatment area and program the laser to complete your unique treatment plan.
Once your treatment has begun, the robotic head will repeatedly guide a laser beam atop the skin, completing multiple passes over the treatment area. Even better news, all you have to do is lay back and relax during the process!
What can MLS laser therapy treat?
MLS laser therapy is effective for treating a variety of musculoskeletal injuries and degenerative conditions. Your podiatrist can offer MLS laser therapy to treat the following:
Muscle strains and tears.
Musculoskeletal pain.
Specific neurological issues, such as neuropathy.
Degenerative joint conditions, including arthritis.
Ligament injuries, like a sprained ankle.
Tendon injuries involving Achilles tendinitis.
MLS laser therapy can also treat deep tissue wounds and diabetic ulcers.
Many individuals describe MLS laser therapy as getting a warm massage, so they leave their sessions feeling a sense of relief. However, whilst improvement is noticeable shortly after your first treatment session, it can take up to three visits to start noticing a significant change. However, an immediate decrease in pain and inflammation should be noticeable after every session.
What does laser therapy have that makes it stand out?
The fact that laser therapy requires no drugs at all is not its only benefit, there are almost always no side effects, and it's very quick and convenient. Studies have shown that MLS therapy is equal to or better than some other forms of physical therapy.
Does it hurt?
In most cases, laser therapy does not at all. There is little to no sensation during treatment. There is also no known pain associated with applying the laser Often, treatment is relaxing, and some people even fall asleep.
How long does treatment take?
In most cases, a singular course of treatment will take between 10 and 15 minutes. This is dependent on the size of the area that is treated. We typically recommend treatments be given 2 to 3 times a week; however, the plan is based on the individual.
How many treatments would i need?
This is also dependent on the condition that is being treated. We usually suggest somewhere between 6 and 15 sessions. However, this is subjective; we may also suggest ongoing periodic treatment options to help with pain management.
How long until I see results?
Depending on the condition being treated, you could see results in as little as three treatments; this is usually something minor like pain reduction. Some more severe problems could take up to 6 sessions before you feel the benefits of the microlaser. Unfortunately, not everyone does respond to laser technology, and because of this, results can never be guaranteed.
How long will the results last?
Just like all other things, MLS Laser Therapy does take time to heal. It will not simply mask or cover the condition. The results from this treatment help you to be fully healed, so if you feel better, you are better.
Can I use MLS alongside other forms of treatment?
Often when combined with other forms of therapy, MLST can become more effective, including physical therapy, podiatric care, massages and soft tissue mobilization.
